The state of Oaxaca has one of the historical collections of tubular bodies of the world's most extraordinary. Sixty-nine organs built between 1686 and 1891 remind us today the glorious musical past of Oaxaca, where a church was not considered complete if it did not have a body. It is likely that more bodies are found in villages Oaxaca that have not yet been reported and urges register before they disappear.

  • The Catedral de Oaxaca (Oaxaca City)
  • Yanhuitlán
  • The Basilica de la Soledad (City of Oaxaca)
  • Santa Maria Assunta Tlaxiaco
  • Zapotitlán Lagunas (partially restored)

sixty-one remaining instruments in varying states of disrepair. Some are only an outer box empty or inner parts, while others are almost intact. Despite his condition, all bodies provide important information about construction techniques and the musical characteristics of a bygone era. Founded in 2000 with the support of Alfredo Harp Helu Foundation, the Institute of Historic Organs of Oaxaca AC (IOHIO, pronounced YOYO for short) seeks the following goals:

Margo Glantz's family came Mexico from Ukraine in the second decade of the twentieth century, his father, Jacobo Glantz, had met his mother, Elizabeth (Lucy) Shapiro, in Odessa, where they married.
